Game Design Outline

Game Design Outline Template

1. Game Mechanics | My game will be simple yet complicated at the same time, being a micro-management-based game mixed with an FPS Shooter.

2. Genre | Grand Strategy + FPS

3. Platform and Controls | PC due to constant mouse movement needed with multiple menu’s, which is hard to do on console. The controls in the FPS section will be the basics, M1 to fire, M2 to mouse aim and number keys to cycle between an inventory. The rest of the game is played solely with the mouse.

4. Avatar | The main characters will be the multiple soldiers you control on the battlefield once a fight starts.

5. Camera Perspective | Top Down / FPS

6. Goals and Scores | I am aiming to make a game that people can enjoy yet also play competitively if they would like. There will be a currency gained upon winning (and also paying) which can be used to buy skins.

7. Progression and Variety | The game will be varied as not everything will always be the same, wars will sometimes not be declared and alliances will also not form. The battles will all be on separate maps, being a new randomly generated environment, each time depending on the location. No map will ever be the same

8. Tension and Rest | The moments of Tension and Excitement will come from the battles starting, being thrown into an FPS straight away. While this is not happening, the player has time to relax however not be bored, as they will need to manage armies, economy and such.

9. Obstacles and Penalties | The objectives will be different each time, as you will be thrown into countries at random at the start of the game without choice. The penalties for failing things could be economy crisis, war or lack of rations for soldiers.

10. Resources | There are no pickups, however you can use money to supply yourself with different guns, vehicles, grenades and so forth.

11. Decisions | The game is completely decision based, choosing to make alliances, join unions or go to war with people. The game will always be different and the decisions you make will always be different.

12. Storytelling | The story is never specific, as you make your own story through your choices as a lone country. Possibly joining up with others, or staying your own and becoming a superpower.

13.  Art Direction and Style | The game will look quite simplistic in its strategy nature, a map of the world being displayed with the menu being quite a bland texture. The FPS section of the game however will be semi-realistic, giving people an experience.

14. Sound Design |  The game will have quite intense yet relaxing music at the same time, heavy instruments at a slow pace to build suspense of possibly upcoming issues. During the FPS sections there will be no music involved.
